There are whole worlds inside each human imagination. Some are grand and epic, others are small and beautiful. The musical is a wonderfully grand way to express story, character, and song. Each time we are finished performing a show, all the actors, the crew, and musicians sense that cathartic experience of life lived intensely, albeit vicariously through the lives, stories, and songs of characters we will never meet. But there is something magnificent about musicals-when so many of the arts work together to bring to life a story. So far my imagination has visited the realms of American folkways, Irish bards, Swingers in Paris, Cowboys in the Wild West, and Pirates in the Caribbean. There are many other worlds to visit, and I am looking forward to the many roads yet to travel, the characters not yet met, and the songs not yet sung. But for now, please enjoy the musicals that exist in the primary world.
